On my first ever job interview in my college-campus in 1998-99, I was asked a question about my hobby. I had practiced for this one, and the answer was "Introspection". This single answer quite literally landed me on the software job that started the engagement with the IT world for the next 20 years.
I hardly knew what it meant then; infact the word came to me the night before the job interview and I had to look it up in the dictionary to learn that it exactly meant what I thought it did. At that tender age, Introspection meant that every night, I was spending time in revisiting my entire day; and trying to understand it in terms of my experience.
Today, when I look at this word, Introspection almost resembles the word self-reflection. No wonder, I love Yoga and Meditation.
Curiously, I looked up the two words in the Oxford dictionary (and Google-AI) today and here are the meanings for your reference.
Introspection is a psychological process that involves looking inward to examine one's own thoughts, emotions, judgments, and perceptions. In psychology, introspection refers to the informal process of exploring one's own mental and emotional states.
Self-reflection means taking the time to think about, meditate on, evaluate, and give serious thought to your behaviors, thoughts, attitudes, motivations, and desires.
