Vegetarian diet helps me be diligent

We grew up in a small village in India and though never completely vegetarian, we ate meat (mostly fish) once in a month or so when there was fishing at the local pond. When we moved to the city later for school and other educational needs, we started eating chicken or goat once in a while as well but the frequency still remained as little as once in 1 or 2 weeks. Essentially, my body was mostly made of the fresh vegetables cooked at home as we never ate outside (discounting the hostel food I ate for lunch during my engineering days).
When I moved to US in 2003, I started eating out more and eating meat much more frequently than I was used to - i.e. as much as 4 to 6 meals a week where there will be either egg, fish or chicken. I didn't know what it was doing to me until a few months back when I switched back to vegetarian diet. In the past 20 years, my body has probably had a complete makeover (may be even twice) with the American food-source, meat and more meat raised with anti-biotics, dairy from cows treated with hormones, and vegetables loaded with chemicals.
After doing Yoga and starting my spiritual journey about 3 years ago, I started having the urge to stop eating meat. And I experimented for a few months to notice if the urge comes back but they never did. So, I made a permanent change in my diet to eliminate meat. What came as a result is something magnificent.

With a vegetarian diet, I noticed a significant uplift in my digestion and energy level. This was expected. However, the other change is what actually surprised me. I started to notice I am no longer procrastinating (or hesitating) to do stuff that's needed at the moment - be it a task that I like to do or be it a task that hated to do (which is mostly why it got procrastinated). To me, this is the best change that could have happened - I may not get a lot done but it sure does makes me a responsible citizen at home, for my community as well as for my business. This helps me prioritize in a way that I can take care of things that I must do before I get to things that I like to do. Who knew Vegetables have this hidden capability to change the mind.
May you have the urge to notice what diet change can do to your body & mind!
